Sylva is a picturesque small town in Jackson County at the foot of the Great Smoky Mountains. Enjoy a stroll down its "All American" Main Street, filled with local restaurants, charming stores, galleries, bookshops, and breweries. Throughout the year, Sylva hosts numerous events, including the lively Greening Up the Mountain street festival to welcome spring and the Concerts on the Creek series during the summer.
One of the town's highlights is the historic Jackson County Courthouse on Main Street, built in 1914 and considered the "most photographed courthouse" in North Carolina. Reach the courthouse by climbing 107 steps from Main Street and enjoy a stunning view of downtown Sylva and the surrounding mountains.

This town knows how to celebrate, and it does so year-round with events that bring locals and visitors together in the heart of downtown and beyond.
The year kicks off with the beloved Greening Up the Mountains Festival each April, a celebration of Appalachian culture featuring 150+ vendors, live music, and a community 5K. Come fall, Treat Street transforms downtown into a family-friendly Halloween block party, and the holidays are ushered in with a festive Christmas Tree Lighting and the multi-week Shop & Stroll Saturdays in December.
Sylva’s Concerts on the Creek series is a highlight of the summer, offering free live music every Friday evening from late May through August. Held at the picturesque Bridge Park, it’s a local favorite for food trucks, cold drinks, and dancing as the sun sets behind the mountains.
For those drawn to the outdoors, the CycleNC Mountain Ride in August brings cyclists of all skill levels to Sylva for a weekend of scenic mountain routes and community events. Want something slower paced? Join a forest bathing session at Pinnacle Park for a meditative nature experience unlike any other.
Whether you're here for the music, the mountains, or the sense of community, Sylva offers something for everyone. Its events aren’t just entertainment—they’re invitations to become part of a town that values connection, creativity, and good mountain living.
Thinking of making Sylva your home? You won’t just find a house, you’ll find your people.
